We had heard the news that Gary's father had passed away yesterday
in Australia. So when he came to the fan picnic, he received our
condolences and an extra hug.

As far as we know, there are two couples among the fans, who have been to the Vrijthof
for all 20 years and have seen every concert there. (Torben and Kirsten Esbensen (DK),
and Ruud and Ineke Elshout-Cornelissen (NL)}.
As a result, they are celebrating a “20th anniversary” as well. Hip hip hooray! Viva Maastricht.
Oooh, we forgot Gary!!
Of course he has been there also all 20 years in a row!!
He belongs to the Johann Strauss Orchestra
Second fan picnic on Saturday July 11th, between 12 and 2 pm
at the Stadspark (Citypark): 19 fans, 1 tenor and 1 local.
Camera team Hannah Padding (interviews), René (cameraman) and Clemens (assistent) will be here again
to continue last years recordings. The intention is to make a documentary about André Rieu fans. Why they
travel year after year to Maastricht to attend one or more André concerts. They recorded also last year
during the fan picnic, but wanted to get more material this year.

A senior

Maastricht was
used to reading
his newspaper
on this bench in
the shade and
didn't mind that
it was getting
increasingly
crowded with
André Rieu
fans. Quite nice
too, right?
