André Magazine 2011

Entia, from South Africa, offered to do some translations for us. Her native languages are English and Afrikaans. Afrikaans is the third most spoken mother tongue in SA. It is a derivative of Dutch and originated in the 17th century after Dutch settlers colonized SA. That's why Entia can understand Dutch and we can understand Afrikaans! Click here to read her first translations from the AR Magazine. Entia makes John’s and our job a little lighter! Thank you Entia!

We’d like to introduce Entia!

A wonderful André Rieu Magazine, released on December 17th 2011.

It is only in Dutch language. 180 pages, 305 photos. Awesome! You can order the Magazine in

André’s web shop.

For the German speaking fans: Kathi translated chapters to German, click here.

We translated a few chapters to English for you, with the assistance of John: please click on the picture to the right. We'd like to announce that we added a new translator: Entia from South Africa. Welcome Entia!

New translation from the Andre Rieu Magazine, page 91.

By Entia.

It's a very interesting chapter about the maintenance of André's Stradivari, by the Viennese expert Marcel Richters. We were amazed to read about the cleaning with....rice grains! Click on the picture to read the article.

The Harmony parlor posted another chapter about Govert de Roos' photography. Click here for the Harmony Parlor.

Recently found on YouTube by Magda!! We had not seen it before, so we'd like to share it with you.

André discusses his career in the comfort of his own Maastricht castle.

The video was produced in 2005 by Paul Larson for "Art Express" - Classic, also featuring the fans Inge Cossette from Montreal (Canada) and Mickey Clarke.

Thank you Magda.

If you are interested in the history of André's castle named "De Torentjes", you can find an interesting page (Fun & Misc. Under Misc.) On Sonja's (sleeping) website www.translations.com. You did a wonderful job, Sonja! We still enjoy it!

Please click here to read the article on Sonja's website.

Inge Cossette commented in Harmony Parlor's Guestbook:

Thank you Ineke for the Video in your website. It was taken Nov. 17, 2OO4 in my home and PBS used it in their Pledge drive in 2OO5 and 2OO6 a lot. I remember how I felt like a grilled tomato under those hot lights. But it is a nice souvenir. Inge.

For our South African fans:

We recently discovered a new (Since April 2011) South African shop in Maastricht, named "Baie Goed" (Very Good). Click on the picture above (you'll come to the page of the city walks and scroll down a little bit) to read more about the shop, which is located in the Rechtstraat 53, in the Wyck quarter of Maastricht (between the old Servaas bridge and the Train/ Bus station).

Frank Steijns

On January 27th 2012 Maastricht celebrated the 50 anniversary of the Maastricht conservatory.  All Maastricht carillons and church bells played along with school children who were on the Vrijthof square with hand bells. Frank Steijns played the "Paltz", the biggest Dutch mobile carillon built on a truck, which comes from the town of Soest in the Netherlands.

Click on the picture to read more about this event.

Have you ever clicked on the world map of visitors in the past 24 hours? (At the end of this page?) Very interesting!! Scroll down and you can see where our visitors come from.

City Walks/Day trips Silent sorrow of Jean-Philippe Rieu

In the Privé magazine of February 2012, an article appeared, which looked like an interview with André's younger brother Jean-Philippe named: "The silent sorrow of André Rieu", but it meant to be: "The silent sorrow of Jean-Philippe Rieu".  We contacted Mr. J-P. Rieu. He mailed us that he had never given an interview to Privé. Privé took the material from other sources but he confirmed that the contents are correct. He gave us permission to translate and post the article on our website. Click on the photo to the left to read the article.
