Golden Oldies
Counter
For some time now we have been contemplating to start a "Golden Oldies" page.
On this page we will post scenes of older -mainly TV programs- which were
never released on Video or DVD.
In December 2004, André and the JSO played a New Year's Eve Concert in
Trier, Germany.
Like Maastricht, Trier is an ancient town founded by the Romans.
See what happens when the amateur archaeologist André starts digging in
Trier's inner city.
Further on he has the Austrian DJ Ötzi in his show. Waltzing to a discobeat!
For those who are interested, please click
here to find the lyrics of the "La Ola
Waltzer" and a short description of DJ Ötzi's life on Sonja's website. This show
includes the beautiful Brazilian song: "Manja de carnaval", with Carla
Maffioletti playing the guitar. The performance has been shown on TV only
once (broadcast by the German ZDF channel), but has never been released on
DVD. The video below shows some of the highlights of this concert.
Running time: 34 minutes
The video below is an
item about the "Sound
of Music" from the
2001 Austrian show
"Zauber der Musik" (the
Magic of the music).
You only see André
dancing on rare
occasions. His dancing
is not bad compared to
the original 1965
movie..
Running time: 12.5 minute
In 1995 André Rieu appeared in a TV commercial for Bavaria malt beer
(alcohol free beer).
Why is he driving a steam roller? In the Dutch language the words for a
steam roller and a waltz are the same:"wals".
As a result of this commercial he also receives Mr. Gerard van Bezij at his
home (comedian André van Duin) for a violin lessen. Why is Mr. van Bezij
interested in André's garage?
Some of you may recall that André van Duin (as Mr. Wijdbeens) also
appeared in André's concert in the Amsterdam ArenA (2009).
The above items come from the 5 DVD box, released a few weeks ago in The
Netherlands. If you are interested in this DVD box then click
here.
(Note: PAL only and some of the older material does not have subtitles.)
Running time: 9 minutes
In 2000/2001 Manoe Konings
was diagnosed with breast
cancer. Despite her illness and
treatment, she remained playing
with the JSO and only missed a
single tour to the USA. In 2001
she, André and the JSO appeared
in the José Carrera Gala for
cancer relief. Here she proudly
played without her wig.
Is she alone? No, this illness hits
one out of every seven women.
During the same time frame Ineke
was also treated for breast
cancer. Music heals!
Duration: 4.5 minutes
Febr.2010: Sven Kramer
just won the first gold
medal for the Netherlands

on
the Olympic oval AND
the fans in Holland turned
orange again! But how do
we learn to skate?
It all starts at the frozen
ditches, lakes, canals of
Amsterdam and around the
windmills in Kinderdijk.
You may even spot a familiar face on the ice. A Golden Oldie dating back to
1997. It was a video clip to promote André on PBS . Thanks to Sonja and the
Morgans for sending us this material. Read how Sonja discovered André and
found the clip, on:

In 1995 André and the JSO
performed for the first time
in the Amsterdam Carré
theatre. This show was
recorded and broadcast by
the TROS. Good old
memories, the first concert
we attended... In the middle
of the summer, they set out
skating. Watch the wind
section make their moles on
the ice. We posted this
fragment in the honor of
Sven Kramer, our best
Dutch speed skater in 2010.
